NEEND (“we”, “our”, or “the app”) is a wellness app for sleep insights developed by an independent developer. It is not a medical device and does not diagnose or treat medical conditions. We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what data the app accesses, how it is used, and your rights.
NEEND is built as a local-first app: microphone capture and sleep analysis run on your device, and we do not operate analytics or advertising SDKs that send your sleep content to NEEND. If you connect Apple Health, NEEND can write your NEEND sleep sessions to Health as described below. As of this policy, NEEND does not operate cloud sync or backup of your in-app sleep data to NEEND-controlled servers; your session data stays on the device unless you export it or use Apple Health as described here.
NEEND uses your device’s microphone during sleep sessions that you start. Recording follows an intermittent schedule to reduce battery use: about 25% duty cycle, implemented as five short (~3 second) recordings per minute (not continuous recording).
Audio is analyzed entirely on your device using on-device signal processing, heuristics, and machine learning; Apple system frameworks may be used as part of that pipeline. Raw recordings used for analysis are deleted after processing. Only derived data (for example event timestamps, confidence scores, and computed sleep scores) is kept locally.
No audio is uploaded to NEEND-operated servers.
NEEND requests Apple Health permission to read and write sleep analysis data, as required for the HealthKit authorization flow on iOS. If you allow access, NEEND writes your NEEND sleep sessions to Apple Health—for example sleep analysis entries with start/end times and sleep stages—so you can view them alongside other health data.
NEEND is designed so in-app sleep history and charts reflect NEEND’s own sessions. The app does not import or merge sleep samples from other apps or sources from Health into NEEND’s in-app views.
HealthKit data is not used for advertising or marketing, and is not sold. Data you save to Apple Health remains subject to Apple’s Health app and your iCloud settings.
NEEND stores the following data locally on your device using Core Data:
Most of this information stays on your device unless you export it or use Apple Health as described above. You can remove local app data by deleting the app.
If you export a report, files are generated on your device. They leave your device only if you choose to share them (for example via Mail, AirDrop, or Files). NEEND does not upload exports to NEEND-operated servers as part of that feature.
NEEND does not integrate third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services in the app. There are no SDKs in the app that upload your sleep recordings or on-device database to NEEND.
When you visit this privacy policy URL or other pages on our site, normal web hosting and infrastructure (for example Vercel) may create standard server or access logs (such as IP address, user agent, and request time). That logging is separate from data collected inside the NEEND iOS app and is typical for websites.
NEEND is rated 4+. We do not knowingly ask children for personal information for NEEND-operated online services, and the app does not send sleep audio or your on-device sleep history to NEEND-operated servers as described in this policy.
On-device data benefits from iOS protections, including device encryption and app sandboxing. Audio analyzed on your device is not sent to NEEND-operated servers as part of normal app operation. Data you sync or store with Apple Health follows Apple’s security and privacy controls.
If we make changes to this privacy policy, we will update this page with a new effective date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
